Thanks to its vast extension (nearly three million square kilometers), its varied climate (with temperatures which range from 35 to 5 degrees Celsius) along with its relief (of mountain chain, plateaus, and plains), Argentina offers a great variety of native and exotic species for hunting activity with optimum destinations throughout the whole national territory.
The origins of hunting in Argentina go back to the 20th century according to the stories from the first explorers and travelers whose practice was not for sports but for survival, mainly as a source for proteins.
As from the 20th century, the importation of exotic species began with the purpose to decorate farms and parks. Finally a very well known case is the one of Sir Pedro Luro who introduced the first red deer, European wild boars and other species intending to create real hunting grounds.
In the 1950s, sports hunting began assuming a role of major importance and constant growth, facilitating the practice of sports shooting in polygons. Likewise the establishment of organizations and specialized clubs for such sports began taking place.
